David Lazzaretti Study Centre Exhibition Space

Address

Aldobrandeschi Fortress – Arcidosso Historic Centre

Museum

The Study Centre is dedicated to the figure of David Lazzaretti (1834-1878), known as the “Prophet of Amiata”, who affirmed to be God’s instrument in accomplishing a great mission for reform. The social and religious life of Lazzaretti represents, in the historical context of the Amiata mountain and more generally in the history of the lower classes of post-unification Italy, a poignant, suggestive and emotive moment. Through two specific sections, one documentary and one exhibitory, the Study Centre aims to reconstruct the full-story with the aid of photography, paintings, clothing, banners and an extensive bibliography and archive documentation produced by the Lazzarettist movement. Further documentation, archives and photography has now been completely catalogued and made available to scholars and researchers at connected library of Arcidosso. Guided tours of the museum are available and on reservation excursions to the ruins of the Giurisdavidic Tower.
