Museum
This ethnographic collection of the celebration of the Fire of Saint Catherine is housed in the premises of a former blacksmith’s forge. The museum documents the work, traditions and rituals relating to the traditional celebratory bonfire, the use of fire in daily life and the wood deriving from trees of Monte Amiata. The exhibition is divided into two sections, the first of which comprises a collection of objects used for work and domestic activities related to fire. The second focuses on the “stollo”, a long symbolic wooden pole, used in the celebration to construct the “Focarazza”, or bonfire. The ancient ritual dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, is renewed every 24th November and is the most important festivity for the whole local community. The evocative stages of the celebration are illustrated with rich photographic documentation. The museum also has a significant collection of traditional children’s games. Guided tours and educational workshops are available.
